Georgian steampunk recipes — classic dishes reimagined with storytelling and flavor.
Intro/Story
When chrononauts travel between centuries, they need quick energy – and they need it in style. Gozinaki, the traditional Georgian honey and walnut dessert, is served in this version in a hexagonal shape, with a steaming surface and gear-shaped cookies as mechanical companions. Sweet, nutty, powerful – a dessert that tastes like history.
Christmas is not celebrated in Georgia, but New Year’s Eve on December 31 has a special significance. Children receive gifts from Grandfather Frost (Thowlis Babua), and families cook more lavishly than at any other time of the year. Typically Georgian, walnuts play a major role in this – whether in cold starters, hearty main courses, or sweet desserts. The sumptuous festive meals are supposed to bring luck and prosperity for the new year, but often have culinary side effects.
Gozinaki is a traditional Georgian sweet that is only made at New Year and Christmas. This specialty consists of caramelized walnuts refined with honey and, optionally, a little sugar. With just three ingredients—honey, walnuts, and sugar—it creates a festive dessert that holds a special place in Georgian cuisine. Gozinaki is one of the culinary classics of the South Caucasus and a must for anyone who wants to discover traditional Georgian recipes.
